Juanita Rockwell

Juanita Rockwell is an accomplished writer and director with a career spanning over three decades. A member of the Dramatists Guild and the Stage Directors & Choreographers Society, she is renowned for her innovative approach to creating new works, including plays, opera libretti, audio plays, multimedia performances, and site-specific works.

Rockwell's work as a writer and director has been showcased in prestigious venues and festivals worldwide. She has directed over 50 premieres, collaborating with leading experimental playwrights such as Suzan-Lori Parks, Paula Vogel, and Rachel Sheinkin. Her written works, including Backwards from Winter and Between Trains, have been performed internationally, earning critical acclaim for their originality and depth.

As the Founding Director of the MFA in Theatre at Towson University, Rockwell was instrumental in shaping the next generation of theatre creators, focusing on original experimental projects. Her academic career, which spanned over two decades, reflects her dedication to fostering innovative and boundary-pushing art.

Rockwell's contributions to the arts have been recognized with numerous honors, including the Marion International Fellowship for the Performing and Visual Arts, a Fulbright Scholarship, and multiple artist residencies at prestigious institutions like Djerassi and UCross.
